Participants will learn about insulated rammed earth for houses, thermal mass and other benefits of rammed earth. There will be plenty of pictures in the slide-show showing beautiful examples. Beyond that, Clifton will discuss energy choices and other healthy materials to use in a sustainable home.
Bio - Clifton is a green building professional specializing in rammed earth construction and design in Vancouver, Victoria and Salt Spring Island, B.C. Canada. His vision is to create environments that are beautiful, artistic and sustainable. Clifton believes that both design and construction of a building must be intimately connected to bring maximum benefit to both people and the environment. Beyond rammed earth his ambition is to become an eco-developer and influence society on a larger scale.

Our centre is on the second floor and accessible via the glass door and staircase on the Southwest corner of the building. Please advise all faculty members and students (graduate and undergraduate) in your department, that nominations for the Killam Teaching Prize for the Faculty of Applied Science are being accepted.
The UBC Killam Teaching Prize recognizes all aspects of outstanding teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Three of these prizes, each having a value of $5,000 and are expected to be awarded within the Faculty of Applied Science in 2010. Students, faculty and alumni may nominate an excellent teacher.
